A new bill introduced by Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, is meant to prevent child deaths in hot cars by requiring cars come equipped with systems to alert parents if they forget to remove kids from vehicles after their engine is turned off.
"Anybody who has kids looks at this as a complete tragedy that doesn't need to happen," Ryan told The Washington Post. "There's no reason we can't have a quick fix. Every year we wait we lose more and more lives."
The legislation was introduced last Wednesday and is co-sponsored by Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., and Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill.
