President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday to push for his proposal to build a wall along the southern U.S. border and criticize Democrats on immigration, a pair of missives that comes as the Trump administration continues to grapple with fallout from the Florida high school shooting.

"MS-13 gang members are being removed by our Great ICE and Border Patrol Agents by the thousands, but these killers come back in from El Salvador, and through Mexico, like water," the president tweeted. "El Salvador just takes our money, and Mexico must help MORE with this problem. We need The Wall!"

The president's tweet Friday on MS-13 came less than half-an-hour after "Fox & Friends," Trump's morning news show of choice, aired a segment on incidents of violence by the gang.

In a later post, the president accused Democrats of abandoning their push to shield young undocumented immigrants protected under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals initiative, commonly referred to as DACA.

"For those of you who are still interested, the Democrats have totally forgotten about DACA," Trump tweeted. "Not a lot of interest on this subject from them!"

Negotiations on DACA have repeatedly stalled in Congress this year, with Democrats unable to garner sufficient Republican support for a compromise on the measure.
