The Treasury launched a website Tuesday where people can track how tax dollars are spent and see how payments flow to thousands of companies and nonprofits and millions of individuals.

Beta.USAspending.gov is searchable by location, federal agency or by keyword for a specific program or type of spending. It also can be searched for specific recipients of federal funds, such as a business or university.

The previous website for tracking federal spending, USAspending.gov, provided similar features but was not as expansive or user-friendly as the new site.

“The new site provides taxpayers with the ability to track nearly $4 trillion in government spending from Washington, D.C., directly into their communities and cities,” said Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin. “Furthermore, greater access to data will drive better decision making and strengthen accountability and transparency — qualities central to the administration’s focus on a more innovative and effective government.”
