San Francisco store clerk dies after thief beats him with baseball bat, steals beer

San Francisco store clerk has died from his injuries that occurred during a robbery, in which he had been brutally beaten with a baseball bat while trying to stop a thief stealing beer.

Yowhannes "John" Tewelde, 60, died at a local hospital on Tuesday after suffering a major brain injury during the attack. He never regained consciousness and the unidentified suspect remains at large, according to the New York Post.

Tewelde, who a neighbor says was "loved by the community," was brutally beaten by a thief with a baseball bat while working at the Balboa Street store around 9:30 pm Thursday.
