House Republicans on Tuesday accused Speaker Nancy Pelosi of tossing out coronavirus protocols for political convenience to ensure that she won election to a fourth term as speaker.
Top Republican leaders sent a letter to Pelosi complaining that safety protocols put in place by her office, made in consultation with Capitol medical officials, were swept aside on the opening day of Congress.
“The opening day of the 117th Congress was the latest example of medical guidance being thrown out the window in favor of what is politically convenient,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California, as well as other top Republicans, wrote to Pelosi.
McCarthy and other GOP leaders accused Pelosi, a California Democrat, of tossing aside detailed guidance for opening day outlined by House officials that called for social distancing and other precautions.
