Population loss from several high-tax blue states has exposed the economic tradeoffs of heavier tax burdens, expensive housing, and regulatory complexity. The pattern is not reducible to one cause, but it is increasingly clear that state tax policy plays a larger role in migration and fiscal stability than many progressive lawmakers care to admit.
